🍼 Baby bottle amounts: how much milk by age
Bottle amounts vary with baby’s needs and clinical circumstances.
What you need
- Bottles in practical sizes: 150 ml (5 fl oz) and 240 ml (8 fl oz), plus a small 60 ml (2 fl oz) bottle for top-ups.
- Your infant formula tin with its supplied scoop.
- Safe drinking water suitable for infants (boiled and cooled tap water, or low-mineral bottled water if tap water is unsafe).
Guide to bottle amounts by age
1. Feed responsively
Offer breast milk or age-appropriate formula according to hunger and fullness cues. Watch growth and wet nappies/nappies with your child-health team; do not require every baby to finish a fixed volume.
2. Measure accurately
Prepare formula using the exact label ratio, water first, and only the supplied scoop. Use mL; if showing US fl oz, 1 fl oz is approximately 29.6 mL. Never round conversions into new mixing instructions.
3. Seek support
Poor intake, persistent vomiting, dehydration, lethargy or concerns about growth need clinical advice.
