Staff should direct support during epidural placement.
What to do while you're in the hallway
1. What to prepare
Ask where to sit or stand; do not touch sterile equipment. Help the patient follow positioning instructions only if invited.
2. What to check
Tell staff if you feel faint and sit down. Respect the patient’s choice and leave space for monitoring and urgent care.
3. In South Africa
Confirm your clinic or midwife obstetric unit, referral hospital, transport plan and after-hours contacts. Bring pregnancy records and your baby’s Road to Health booklet to visits; private medical-scheme arrangements and public referral pathways differ.
