❓ What happens after a trip to maternity triage?
Triage decides urgency; discharge does not mean concerns should be ignored.
The 3 possible scenarios
1. What to prepare
Bring pregnancy records and explain symptoms, onset, movements and medicines. Tell staff immediately if symptoms worsen while waiting.
2. What to check
Before discharge, ask what was found, what follow-up is needed and exactly when and where to return. Return for new or persistent warning signs.
3. In South Africa
For a life-threatening medical emergency call 112 from a mobile phone; 10177 for an ambulance. Give your location and follow dispatcher instructions.
4. In South Africa
Confirm your clinic or midwife obstetric unit, referral hospital, transport plan and after-hours contacts. Bring pregnancy records and your baby’s Road to Health booklet to visits; private medical-scheme arrangements and public referral pathways differ.
