🔥 Burn-proofing your kitchen and daily life
Kids' skin is super sensitive: just a few seconds of contact with 60°C (140°F) water is enough to cause a third-degree burn.
Real talk
- Teach your kid about 'hot' early on by pointing out the oven door or the iron, setting crystal-clear boundaries from day one.
Key habits
1. In the kitchen
Always turn pot and pan handles inward away from the edge of the stove. And never, ever hold your kid while handling hot liquids.
2. Mealtimes
Ditch the tablecloths: tiny hands love to pull on them, bringing piping-hot dishes crashing straight down.
3. Bottles
Skip the microwave (it creates nasty hot spots). Give the bottle a good shake and always test the temp on the inside of your wrist.
4. Bath time
Double-check the water temperature with a bath thermometer: you're aiming for 37°C (98.6°F).
5. Local guidance
Keep hot drinks and cookware out of reach, never carry baby while handling them, and mix/check bathwater before baby enters. Obtain current local burn first-aid instructions; do not use ice, butter or creams on a fresh burn. Seek urgent care for a baby’s burn.
