🧬 Fertility treatments & ART: what it is and how it actually works
Assisted reproduction covers different treatments, each with its own indications and legal rules.
Key Steps in the Journey
1. What to prepare
Start with an appropriate fertility consultation; ask about investigation, options, risks, consent, costs and realistic individual outcomes.
2. What to check
Separate clinical suitability, eligibility for funding and legal parentage. Get advice before donor treatment or a cross-border arrangement.
3. In Singapore
Licensed assisted-reproduction services are regulated under the Healthcare Services framework. Restricted procedures require a woman legally married to a man and her husband’s consent; do not say every fertility consultation or elective egg-storage service is restricted in the same way. Ask a licensed service about the exact procedure, eligibility and funding.
4. In Singapore
Section 377A was repealed with effect from 3 January 2023: consensual private sexual activity between adult men is not criminalised by that repealed provision. This did not legalise same-sex marriage or automatically grant joint parentage, adoption or leave rights. Marriage recognition, Muslim and civil marriage frameworks, ART access and parentage are distinct legal questions.
