😭 Taming the evening witching hour meltdown
Evening crying can be common, but always check feeding, comfort and illness.
Gear to have ready
- 1 ergonomic baby wrap or carrier.
- A calm space (dimmed lights, minimal noise).
Action plan
1. Respond to baby
Check feeding cues, nappy/nappy and temperature. Try gentle holding or rocking while awake. Skin-to-skin requires an awake adult and a clear airway; move to a safe sleep surface if either is sleepy.
2. Get help
If baby is unwell, feeds poorly or has unusual crying, seek prompt medical advice. Severe breathing problems or unresponsiveness: 111. If overwhelmed, put baby on their back in their cot/cot and get support; never shake.
