🧬 mum's body after giving birth
Postpartum recovery varies and deserves practical support and medical attention when needed.
What's Actually Happening in Her Body
1. What to prepare
Share chores, feeding support and appointments; respect privacy, pain and choices about touch.
2. What to check
Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, chest pain, breathing difficulty, severe headache, fever or acute mental-health symptoms. Ask the maternity team about wound or pelvic-floor concerns.
3. In Ireland
For a life-threatening medical emergency call 112 or 999. Give your location and follow dispatcher instructions.
4. In Ireland
Register with a GP for the HSE Maternity and Infant Care Scheme and confirm your maternity-unit contact and postnatal follow-up. Public health nurses support infant care; do not assume every private service is covered.
