🚑 Maternity ER: when and how to get there?
Contact maternity care promptly when labour or a pregnancy complication is suspected.
What to Do?
1. What to prepare
Call your maternity unit for waters breaking, contractions, bleeding, changed movements or any concern; follow its individual plan. Do not delay to shower or pack.
2. What to check
For severe bleeding, collapse, seizures, severe breathing difficulty or imminent birth without safe transport, call the medical emergency service.
3. In Ireland
For a life-threatening medical emergency call 112 or 999. Give your location and follow dispatcher instructions.
4. In Ireland
Register with a GP for the HSE Maternity and Infant Care Scheme and confirm your maternity-unit contact and postnatal follow-up. Public health nurses support infant care; do not assume every private service is covered.
