🧬 Fertility treatments & ART: what it is and how it actually works
Assisted reproduction covers different treatments, each with its own indications and legal rules.
Key Steps in the Journey
1. What to prepare
Start with an appropriate fertility consultation; ask about investigation, options, risks, consent, costs and realistic individual outcomes.
2. What to check
Separate clinical suitability, eligibility for funding and legal parentage. Get advice before donor treatment or a cross-border arrangement.
3. In South Africa
Ask a registered fertility service about treatment, donor consent, costs and parentage under the Children’s Act. Same-sex marriage is available through the Civil Union Act; do not describe same-sex families as prohibited or assume marriage alone resolves every donor-conception issue.
