Keep the cord stump clean and dry; let it separate naturally.

Wash hands; follow your maternity unit’s cord-care instructions. If soiled, clean gently and dry; do not apply powders, oils or unprescribed remedies.
2. What to check
Fold the nappy away from the stump. Spreading redness, pus, offensive smell, persistent bleeding or an unwell baby needs prompt medical review.
