👶 Changing diapers and beating diaper rash
Diaper duty is hands down your most frequent mission of the day (6 to 8 pit stops daily). The whole goal: keep that skin clean and bone-dry to dodge diaper rash, nobody wants an angry, red bum.
The kit you'll need
- 1 clean diaper sized for baby's current weight.
- Warm water + cotton pads (or gentle water wipes).
- 1 clean towel to pat dry.
- Fragrance-free barrier cream, such as zinc oxide or petrolatum, if needed to protect skin.
The step-by-step game plan
1. The wipe-down
Always wipe front to back (genitals toward the bum) to avoid dragging bacteria toward the urinary tract.
2. Drying (the crucial move)
Gently pat dry with the towel, never rub. Pay extra attention to all those chunky thigh creases.
3. Air time
If the room is warm and baby's chill, let their bum breathe in the open air for a minute or two before wrapping it up.
4. The fit
Slide the fresh diaper under the bum, pull the front up, secure the tabs without suffocating them (you should comfortably fit two fingers between the waistband and baby's tummy), and flare out the leak-guard ruffles around the legs.
Classic mistakes
- ❌ Leaving the leg ruffles tucked inside The number one cause of side leaks and legendary blowouts.
- ❌ Slapping barrier cream onto damp skin This locks moisture right against the skin and makes the irritation way worse.
